client: jeux du québec i character creation digital i 2023

Being the lead illustrator for a big collaborative project with a women-run creative agency based in Saint-Félicien, Qc., Zone Orange Communications.

We came together to conceptualize, illustrate and deliver a mascot design and logo for the biggest Regional sports competition aimed for younger athletes: Jeux du Québec.

Created for the region of the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Sire du Tremblay was created with mixing the cold weather of the characteristic cold mountains in mind while incorporating its iconic blueberries as centrepiece for the character.

I went through a lot of character concept sketches and ideas before we found our beloved Blueberry Yeti. Dozens of designs came and went—some too fierce, some too silly—but none felt quite right. It wasn’t until I started drawing inspiration from the local flora and fauna that everything clicked. The Yeti’s shaggy fur, a blueberry for centrepiece, and its symbiotic relationship with the surrounding habitat made it feel like a creature that truly belonged.
